I visited the ‘best park café’ with a lake view in an unexpected corner of Birmingham.

The Lakeside Cafe is currently open Monday’s to Friday’s, 9am – 4pm.

Following the re-development of the Dolphin Centre, the Lakeside Café re-opened its doors in September 2023.

With a stunning location overlooking Ward End Park lake, the Lakeside Cafe is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee, delicious treat of homemade cake, lovely light lunches whether you’re meeting friends, bringing family along or just want some quiet time to read or watch the ducks and geese on the water.

The Café also provides a safe community hub for local women to engage in social activities and volunteering opportunities, and is a wonderful venue for your community group, business meeting or to access community food support.

As a charity, Norton Hall Family & Children Centre is passionate about our local Ward End community.

It’s diverse, vibrant, and inclusive. As an anchor organisation we believe our purpose is to improve the health, social and financial well-being of local families and individuals.

Our vision is for a community where children and young people are able to fulfil their potential and where parents are enabled to support their families.

The Lakeside Cafe is a wonderful, peaceful space to go to. Knowing it’s run by local women means I feel safe and welcomed there.

When I first came to Ward End, I knew no-one, and spoke very little English. The community Cafe has helped me become connected with the local community and become involved in new activities, new learning and volunteering opportunities.

I still go to the Cafe whenever I can. With my new friends, we often do one of the art or activity groups, or just walk by the lake and enjoy feeding the birds. The nature around the lake helps me feel calm and grounded.
